Descripción del caso

Summary. The procedure is carried out in the operating room with the patient under spinal anesthesia (from the waist down). There are no incisions in the skin, six to eight needles are inserted into the prostate to freeze it and destroy all cancer cells. During the procedure, the prostate is evaluated and the positioning of the needles is controlled by transrectal ultrasound. The needles are hollow and allow the passage of Argon gas or Helium gas allowing the doctor to control freezing and heating. The temperature of the prostate is lowered to -40ºC for several minutes, creating ice balls that kill cancer cells. The patient goes home that same day with a catheter that collects urine into a bag worn on the leg for 4 days.
