Biografía
Michał Pędziwiatr holds the position of professor of surgery at the 2nd Chair of Surgery, Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków. He has finished clinical training in London (St. Mark’s Hospital) and Heidelberg (University Department of Surgery). He is particularly skilled in treating patients with stomach, large bowel, pancreatic, and liver cancers using laparoscopic surgery. In addition to clinical activity, Prof. Pędziwiatr is also involved in the research. Together with a team of 15 fellows he has co-authored > 200 articles in leading medical journals (IF > 400, h-index 21), written several book chapters, and received research grants. His research involves looking at clinical outcomes of oncologic surgical patients. So far, he has supervised 10 Ph.D. students. For his research achievements, he has won multiple awards, including the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, German Surgical Society, and the Association of Polish Surgeons scholarships. He remains a devoted academic teacher who currently coordinates the surgery curriculum at the Jagiellonian University. He finds teaching students and younger surgeons challenging but very rewarding at the same time.
